The graphical illustration of the machine allows the user to monitor all aspects of the test in progress. As the timer for each port becomes active the text associated with that timer turns red. When the cigarette has completed its 40mm burn the cigarette disappears from the screen. This is in keeping with our at-a-glance approach to the software interface.

We use color sensors to detect the burn line of the cigarette being tested. This approach alleviates the need for string activated limit switches, which can be cumbersome when used to detect two points on the same cigarette. These sensors can detect both light and dark colored rods.

The single axis mounting design eliminates the need for multiple moving parts. This design also ensures the center line of the cigarette and lighter are the same allowing the user to test various diameter cigarettes.
